Overview
Stock Watch is a full-stack web application that allows users to track and manage their personal stock portfolio, and access real-time stock prices and historical data for US stocks, utilising the Alpha Vantage API.
The frontend is built with Vue.js, using Bootstrap-Vue for UI components and Chart.js to render historical price charts on individual stock pages. The backend is a Node.js/Express REST API backed by MongoDB, with user accounts secured through bcrypt password hashing and JSON Web Tokens for authenticated access to a user’s watchlist.
Users can sign up, log in, and build a personal watchlist of US stocks, adding and removing holdings which are persisted to their account. The app also integrates the Marketaux API to surface the latest news articles for a user’s tracked companies, helping them stay on top of market developments.
The app was deployed with the client on Netlify and the server on Heroku.
